A Special Guest for Our Next Exhibition Opening – Photographer Steve Sloan

We're delighted to announce that after the opening of next month's Portrait and Abstract exhibitions, we'll be joined by a very special guest – world-travelled photographer Steve Sloan.

Steve's story is one that we think many people will find inspiring. Photography has been a lifelong passion, but like so many creative pursuits, it had to take a back seat while he built an international career. That journey eventually led him to become CEO of a leading international animal health NGO, representing important causes across Africa, India and the USA. Ironically, during those years he was often the one standing in front of the camera rather than behind it.

Retirement gave Steve the opportunity to return to the art form he had always loved. At the age of 65, he earned his Licentiate with the Society of Photographers, proving it's never too late to pursue a creative passion. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), recognised for his work in Africa.

Since then, Steve and his wife Alison have travelled extensively, using photography as a way to connect with people, places and cultures around the world. His work as a documentary portrait photographer has earned numerous accolades, but what really makes Steve such an engaging speaker is his warmth, humility and wealth of life experience.

During the talk, Steve will share stories from his travels, discuss the photographs that have shaped his journey, and reflect on how photography gave him a new sense of purpose later in life. He'll also touch on an increasingly important subject: the ethics of documentary photography. It's a fascinating conversation that perhaps doesn't happen often enough, and one we're sure will spark plenty of discussion.

Whether you're a photographer, an artist, or simply someone who enjoys hearing remarkable stories from remarkable people, this promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

As always, our exhibition opening will run from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm, giving you plenty of time to enjoy both the Portrait and Abstract exhibitions. Steve's talk will follow from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with time afterwards for questions and conversation.

The event is free to attend, but tickets are required so we can manage capacity. We hope you'll join us for what promises to be a wonderful day of art, photography and great conversation.
